RAKTA launches sustainable bus shelters in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) has launched the new generation of public bus stops as part of its strategy for green mobility and its ongoing efforts to develop the infrastructure of the public transportation system. The aim is to encourage residents to use public transportation for their daily commutes. These new bus stops stand out with innovative design, integrating both interior functionality and distinctive exterior aesthetics while incorporating natural elements inspired by the nature of Ras Al Khaimah.

In detail, H.E Eng. Esmaeel Hasan Al Blooshi, Director General of RAKTA, stated that within its strategic priorities, RAKTA emphasizes enhancing and implementing sustainable projects to develop the infrastructure of public transportation and sustainable mobility. This initiative takes into account environmental sustainability requirements, the needs of all users, and aligns with the identity and nature of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. These stations operate on renewable energy, specifically solar power, and are constructed using materials extracted from the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah.

He affirmed that RAKTA aims to increase the number of these new-generation bus stops as part of its comprehensive development plan for transportation from 2023 to 2030. Additionally, he highlighted RAKTA’s goal to achieve integrated public transportation systems in the emirate by providing various complementary elements. These include shaded areas and air-conditioned spaces for users waiting for public transportation, as well as informative signboards displaying bus routes and timetables.
