RAKTA achieved the second place at the level of government agencies participating in the Environmental Sustainability Award organized by the Environment Protection and Development Authority in 2020, in appreciation of its efforts in implementing strategic projects and initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental footprint and carbon emissions and contributing to achieve environmental sustainability in the emirate, focusing mainly on the project of replacing taxis with environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles and introducing electric vehicles to the fleet as a locally leading experience.
The importance of the award lies in establishing the principles of sustainable development, promote a sense of community environmental responsibility, and dissemination of the concept of environmental culture among different sectors. The evaluation was also based on three basic criteria represented in policies that support environmental sustainability in the region, environmental initiatives for environmental protection, and the results and impacts through the benefit to those concerned.
